Lecture on Singapore held

        ON Thursday last week a lecture was held on the relations between Laos and Singapore. The lecture was given by Donesom Vorachit, the Lao Ambassador to Singapore, at the Foreign Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The aim of the lecture was to disseminate information about the activities of Laos within Singapore and Singaporean investments in Laos.
   From the lecture, Attendees were able to enhance their understanding of Laos' foreign policy regarding Singapore. Lao and Singapore established diplomatic relations on 2 December 1974 and have, since that time, enjoyed peaceful and cooperative relations.
Currently Singapore is the eleventh largest foreign investor in Laos. As of April 2004, Singaporean investors had 27 projects worth close to USD 60 million underway in Laos, including the renovation of the morning market in Vientiane.

   The lecture was attended by Ms. Malayvieng Sakonignom, acting head of the Foreign Institute, Heads of Departments and services, technical officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the Party Center Foreign Relations Committee, teachers from the Faculty of Law at the National University of Laos, from the National Institute for the study of politics and administration and trainee officers from the Foreign Institute all together were more than 90 people.
